Running until 1948 and producing a total of 614 issues, the magazine brought together leading cartoonists of the period, including Cemal Nadir Güler, Ramiz Gökçe, Necmi Rıza Ayça, and Münif Fehim. Through its distinctive illustrations and satirical writing, it explored social changes, everyday economic difficulties, the tensions surrounding Westernization, and international developments during the early Republican period and the Second World War.

This issue, number 42, is dated November 17, 1936. Its cover features a humorous illustration of a doctor showing his patient medicine bottles in connection with weight-loss regimens. The bottles bear the hammer-and-sickle symbol and the german cross, introducing contemporary political imagery into a seemingly ordinary medical consultation. By combining health and weight-loss themes with recognizable political symbols, the cover reflects the magazine’s approach to visual satire and its engagement with the wider political atmosphere of the 1930s.

The interior pages feature entertaining glimpses into the personal interests and social lives of well-known Turkish figures. These include Interior Minister Şükrü Kaya’s passion for tennis, singer Münir Nurettin’s decision to begin playing the violin, novelist Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil’s interest in swimming and sea sports, and bacteriologist İhsan Sami’s turn toward aviation and piloting. Combining political symbolism, caricature, and humorous observations about prominent personalities, this historical issue offers an insight into Turkish popular culture and illustrated satire during the early Republican era.

Key Features:

• Publication: Karikatür

• Issue Number: 42

• Publication Date: November 17, 1936 (17 Birinci Teşrin, as provided)

• Language: Turkish

• Publication Type: Weekly humor and caricature magazine

• Founder: Sedat Simavi

• Cover Feature: Humorous illustration of a doctor presenting medicine bottles associated with weight-loss regimens

• Cover Imagery: Medicine bottles bearing the hammer-and-sickle and german cross symbols

• Personalities Featured: Interior Minister Şükrü Kaya, singer Münir Nurettin, novelist Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil, and bacteriologist İhsan Sami

• Lifestyle and Culture: Tennis, violin playing, swimming, sea sports, and aviation

• Historical Interest: Turkish caricature, popular culture, and social satire during the early Republican period

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0716/3687/7450/files/1_6b8b3276-ccd1-4255-998b-fc525d3fc354.jpg?v=1793088957
https://turkrexcollectables.com/products/karikatur-1936-humor-magazine-turkish-turkey-germany-russia-ww2-era
