Fought between French and German forces from February to December 1916, the battle became a defining confrontation on the Western Front.

Marked “Kroki 13 – 1916 Sonbaharında Verdun Önündeki Muharebat” (Sketch 13 – Battles Before Verdun in Autumn 1916), the map focuses on the fighting around Verdun during the autumn of 1916. Its legend illustrates changes in the front lines across different dates, documenting the shifting positions of the opposing forces as the battle progressed.

The map offers a historical view of how the Western Front was represented in Ottoman Turkish military publications. Its dated front-line markings make it particularly interesting for studying the course of the battle and the changing military situation around Verdun.

The exact source book has not been identified. However, other maps in the collection depicting battles such as Arras, Flanders, and other First World War campaigns suggest that this example may have been removed from an Ottoman Turkish book about the war, possibly published in the early 1920s.
