Asterix – Asterix and the Golden Sickle 1977 Turkish Edition Comic Turkey
Asterix – “Altın Orak” (Asterix and the Golden Sickle) – Turkish Hardcover Edition (1977)
Description:
This is a Turkish-language, full-color hardcover Asterix album, published in 1977 by Kervan Yayınları. It belongs to a highly distinctive and historically important series: the only officially published hardcover Asterix editions ever produced in Turkey.
Between 1973 and 1984, Kervan Yayınları released a total of 16 hardcover Asterix volumes, making this series unique within the global Asterix publication history. Notably, Kervan Yayınları was the first official and licensed publisher of Asterix in Turkey all earlier Turkish editions are considered bootleg/unofficial printings.
One of the most fascinating aspects of these Turkish albums is the localization approach. In this series, Obelix’s name was officially changed to “Hopdediks”, which is, to the best of current knowledge, the only official Asterix translation worldwide where Obelix’s name was altered. Beyond character names, many jokes, puns, and cultural references were extensively rewritten and adapted for Turkish readers. Rather than preserving strict textual fidelity, the translators re-created the humor to suit local cultural understanding, resulting in a highly localized and historically intriguing interpretation of Asterix.
The story in this volume is “Altın Orak”, the Turkish edition of Asterix and the Golden Sickle, one of the adventures by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo.
