Cephe 1945 British Propaganda Mag Turkish Turkey European War: Victory Issue WW2 era Stalingrad
Cephe Magazine – “European War: Victory Issue” – May 1945 – Turkish Edition
Description:
Cephe was an important Turkish-language propaganda and information magazine published by Britain during the Second World War, with the aim of influencing public opinion in Turkey. Published continuously from January 1943 to April 1947, the magazine was printed in Cairo, Egypt, and distributed in Turkey with the official permission of the Turkish government. It appeared twice a month in a large-format format measuring approximately 26 × 40 cm. At a time when paper shortages were widespread in Turkey, Cephe stood out for its high-quality coated paper, vivid colour photographs and affordable cover price of just 20 kuruş. Through its richly illustrated pages, the magazine presented British military strength, society and wartime developments to Turkish readers.
The cover of this May 1945 special Victory Issue features a symbolic illustration of soldiers positioned in underground trenches, with an olive branch, representing peace, growing from the roots above them. The image offers a powerful visual contrast between the destruction and hardships of war and the hope for peace following victory in Europe.
Dedicated to the European War and the Allied victory, this special issue provides a historical account of the period from September 3, 1939, to May 8, 1945. Its pages trace the major turning points of the conflict, Nazi occupations, Allied counteroffensives, the victories at Stalingrad and in North Africa, and the final moments of victory celebrations across Europe. Together, the historical narrative and illustrations document the course and conclusion of the European war.
