Cephe Magazine – “British Naval Manoeuvres at Sea” – Series III, Issue No. 21 – November 1946 – Turkish Edition

Description:

Cephe was an important Turkish-language propaganda and information magazine published by Britain during and after the Second World War, with the aim of influencing public opinion in Turkey. Published continuously from January 1943 to April 1947, the magazine was printed in Cairo, Egypt, and distributed in Turkey with the official permission of the Turkish government. It appeared twice a month in a large-format edition measuring approximately 26 × 40 cm. At a time when paper shortages were widespread in Turkey, Cephe stood out for its high-quality coated paper, vivid colour photographs and affordable cover price of just 20 kuruş. Through its richly illustrated pages, the magazine presented British military strength, society, culture and international developments to Turkish readers.

The cover of this November 1946 issue, Series III, No. 21, features a striking colour photograph of warships sailing at sea during a manoeuvre by the British Navy. The image highlights naval operations and Britain's maritime presence, offering an impressive visual opening to the issue.

The interior pages cover a diverse range of international, political, economic and cultural subjects. Articles report on United Nations meetings and local elections held in Berlin, while another feature presents the celebrations surrounding the Mahmal procession in Egypt. The issue also explores the general characteristics and development initiatives of the Gold Coast. Further illustrated features showcase Istanbul's passenger ferries, scenic views of the Mediterranean and landscapes along the Ankara–Istanbul road. The economic section examines coal-mining activities under the title “Black Diamond”. Sports news and developments from the sporting world are also included, alongside a cinema feature introducing “The Blue Dahlia”, starring Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake.
