Cephe Magazine – “Winston Churchill and His Military Entourage” – Series II, Issue No. 7 – April 1945 – Turkish Edition
Description:
Cephe was an important Turkish-language propaganda and information magazine published by Britain during the Second World War, with the aim of influencing public opinion in Turkey. Published continuously from January 1943 to April 1947, the magazine was printed in Cairo, Egypt, and distributed in Turkey with the official permission of the Turkish government. It appeared twice a month in a large-format edition measuring approximately 26 × 40 cm. At a time when paper shortages were widespread in Turkey, Cephe stood out for its high-quality coated paper, vivid colour photographs and affordable cover price of just 20 kuruş. Through its richly illustrated pages, the magazine presented British military strength, society, culture and international developments to Turkish readers.
The cover of this April 1945 issue, Series II, No. 7, features a black-and-white photograph of Winston Churchill walking with his hands in his pockets, accompanied by members of a military entourage. The photograph offers a glimpse of the British wartime leader during the final stages of the Second World War.
The interior pages bring together subjects from Turkish history, military developments and literature. Articles examine the establishment and history of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), alongside a feature on enormous ten-ton bombs. Further coverage discusses the latest military situation on the Eastern and Western Fronts, Germany's approaching collapse and the Allied victory on the Rhine. The cultural section turns to William Shakespeare, presenting features on his life and literary works. Together, these subjects provide an illustrated overview of contemporary wartime developments and historical and cultural topics in April 1945.
