Cephe Magazine – “His Majesty Abdullah, Turkey’s Distinguished Guest” – Series IV, Issue No. 2 – January 1947 – Turkish Edition
Description:
Cephe was an important Turkish-language propaganda and information magazine published by Britain during and after the Second World War, with the aim of influencing public opinion in Turkey. Published continuously from January 1943 to April 1947, the magazine was printed in Cairo, Egypt, and distributed in Turkey with the official permission of the Turkish government. It appeared twice a month in a large-format edition measuring approximately 26 × 40 cm. At a time when paper shortages were widespread in Turkey, Cephe stood out for its high-quality coated paper, vivid colour photographs and affordable cover price of just 20 kuruş. Through its richly illustrated pages, the magazine presented British society, industry, culture and international developments to Turkish readers.
The cover of this January 1947 issue, Series IV, No. 2, features a black-and-white photograph of two people shaking hands, accompanied by the headline “His Majesty Abdullah, Turkey's Distinguished Guest”. The photograph relates to the visit of King Abdullah of Jordan to Turkey and the diplomatic contacts established during his stay.
The interior pages cover a wide range of international, historical, geographical, industrial and cultural subjects. Articles examine King Abdullah's visit and meetings in Turkey, international developments and diplomatic discussions concerning the regime of the Turkish Straits. Other features explore the history, geography and economic conditions of the Kingdom of Jordan, developments in shipbuilding and the construction of large ocean liners, thoroughbred British horses, and preparations for the British King's visit to South Africa. The issue also presents the historical heritage and architectural landmarks of Beyşehir, developments in sculpture, and the peace treaties concluded with Italy following the Second World War. Further contents include the story “Mirza's Dream”, news from the sporting world, and a feature discussing the growing importance and impact of documentary films.
