Der Baumeister – “Architecture in Nuremberg” (Baukunst in Nürnberg) – XXXIX. Jahrgang, Heft 5 – May 1941 – German Edition

Description:

Der Baumeister was one of Germany's established architectural and construction journals of the twentieth century. First published in Munich in 1902, the monthly magazine became an important professional publication documenting architectural movements, urban planning, building design and developments in construction technology. Its issues presented residential buildings, public structures and urban projects through architectural drawings, technical plans and high-quality photographic reproductions.

The May 1941 issue (XXXIX. Jahrgang, Heft 5) is devoted to the architectural development of Nuremberg under the main theme “Baukunst in Nürnberg” (Architecture in Nuremberg). A substantial part of the issue focuses on projects undertaken by the city's Municipal Building Department, documenting architectural planning, restoration and the adaptation of historic buildings to new uses.

The featured projects include the Old Town model (Altstadt-Modell), the renovation of historic buildings, the Mayor's Office, the conversion of the Reich Youth Hostel, Meistersingerkirche, and the redevelopment of Hindenburg-Hochschule. Further coverage examines renovation work at St. Leonhard Cemetery and its funeral chapel (Leichenhaus). Together, these projects provide an illustrated record of architectural and urban development in Nuremberg during the early 1940s.
