Gasschutz und Luftschutz – “Air-Raid Exercises in Central and Southern Germany, Gas Protection in Motor Vehicles and Belgian Air Manoeuvres” – Volume IV, Issue No. 11 – November 1934 – German Edition
Description:
Gasschutz und Luftschutz (Gas Protection and Air-Raid Defence) was a German monthly periodical dedicated to civil defence, chemical protection and military technology. Published between 1931 and 1945 by E.S. Mittler & Sohn in Berlin, the magazine emerged in response to the chemical warfare experience of the First World War and the growing importance of military aviation. It aimed to inform civilians, industrial organisations and civil defence personnel about protective measures against potential aerial and chemical attacks.
The magazine regularly featured technical studies, gas-mask technology, air-raid shelter designs, warning systems, protective equipment and civil defence procedures. During the 1930s, its coverage documented the expansion of civilian air protection (Luftschutz), developments in military aviation and the organisation of emergency preparedness.
The November 1934 issue, Volume IV, No. 11, includes a critical assessment of the air-raid protection exercises conducted in Central and Southern Germany in October 1934, presented under the title “Die mittel- und süddeutschen Luftschutzübungen im Oktober 1934”. Another technical contribution examines gas protection in motor vehicles and automobiles. The issue also covers air manoeuvres in Belgium and discusses the legal regulations governing the sale of gas masks to private individuals. Together, these subjects provide an insight into civil-defence exercises, protective equipment and the regulation of gas-protection measures during the interwar period.
