Gasschutz und Luftschutz – “Air Power and Sea Power: General Mitchell’s Views, Air Defence Communications and British Air Manoeuvres” – Volume IV, Issue No. 3 – March 1934 – German Edition

Description:

Gasschutz und Luftschutz (Gas Protection and Air-Raid Defence) was a German monthly periodical dedicated to civil defence, chemical protection and military technology. Published between 1931 and 1945 by E.S. Mittler & Sohn in Berlin, the magazine emerged in response to the chemical warfare experience of the First World War and the growing importance of military aviation. It aimed to inform civilians, industrial organisations and civil defence personnel about protective measures against potential aerial and chemical attacks.

The magazine regularly featured technical studies, gas-mask technology, air-raid shelter designs, warning systems, protective equipment and civil defence procedures. During the 1930s, its coverage also documented developments in military aviation, air-defence organisation and the technical infrastructure required for civilian protection.

The March 1934 issue, Volume IV, No. 3, features the article “Luftmacht und Seemacht” (Air Power and Sea Power), examining the relationship and balance between aerial and naval forces through the views of General William Mitchell. Further contributions investigate the operation of air-defence communication networks and present reports analysing the British air manoeuvres conducted in 1933. Together, these subjects offer an insight into contemporary military thinking, aviation developments and the organisation of air defence during the interwar period.
