Gasschutz und Luftschutz – “Civilian Evacuation, Bomb-Resistant Reinforced Concrete and the Latest Soviet Gas Mask Models” – Volume VI, Issue No. 10 – October 1936 – German Edition

Description:

Gasschutz und Luftschutz (Gas Protection and Air-Raid Defence) was a German monthly periodical dedicated to civil defence, chemical protection and military technology. Published between 1931 and 1945 by E.S. Mittler & Sohn in Berlin, the magazine emerged in response to the chemical warfare experience of the First World War and the growing importance of military aviation. It aimed to inform civilians, industrial organisations and civil defence personnel about protective measures against potential aerial and chemical attacks.

The magazine regularly featured technical studies, gas-mask technology, air-raid shelter designs, warning systems, protective equipment and civil defence procedures. During the 1930s, its coverage documented the development of civilian air protection (Luftschutz), including urban evacuation planning, structural protection, fire prevention and advances in chemical defence equipment.

The October 1936 issue, Volume VI, No. 10, covers several important aspects of civilian protection and air-raid preparedness. One contribution examines the evacuation and resettlement of sections of the civilian population from major cities, under the title “Aus- und Umquartierung von Teilen der Zivilbevölkerung aus Großstädten...”. Technical articles investigate the calculation of reinforced concrete slabs against the effects of explosive weapons, the effectiveness of firefighting agents and the technical characteristics of gas filters. Particularly noteworthy is the feature “Die neuesten russischen Gasmaskenmodelle für Heer und Zivilbevölkerung” (The Latest Russian Gas Mask Models for the Army and Civilian Population), presenting contemporary Soviet protective equipment for military and civilian use.
