Gasschutz und Luftschutz – “Air War and Air-Raid Defence in February 1942, Eastern Front Operations and Civil Defence in New York” – Volume XII, Issue No. 3 – March 1942 – German Edition

Description:

Gasschutz und Luftschutz (Gas Protection and Air-Raid Defence) was a German monthly periodical dedicated to civil defence, chemical protection and military technology. Published between 1931 and 1945 by E.S. Mittler & Sohn in Berlin, the magazine emerged in response to the chemical warfare experience of the First World War and the growing importance of military aviation. It aimed to inform civilians, industrial organisations and civil defence personnel about protective measures against potential aerial and chemical attacks.

The magazine regularly featured technical studies, gas-mask technology, air-raid shelter designs, warning systems, protective equipment and civil defence procedures. During the Second World War, its coverage documented military air operations, civilian air-protection organisation, emergency preparedness and developments in international civil-defence systems.

The March 1942 issue, Volume XII, No. 3, includes reports on contemporary aerial warfare and military operations on the Eastern Front under the heading “Luftkrieg und Luftschutz im Februar 1942” (Air War and Air-Raid Defence in February 1942). Other contributions present recollections from the early years of German air-raid protection, examine insurance arrangements and legal rights for civil-defence personnel, and investigate air-defence preparations in New York. Particular attention is given to American blackout measures, air-raid shelters and preparations for protecting the civilian population.
