Headbang Magazine – “Thrash’s Four Aces: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax” – Issue #55, November 2011 – Turkish Edition
Description:
Headbang was one of Turkey’s leading rock and heavy metal magazines, playing an important role in the development of the country’s metal scene and culture. First published in March 2007 as a free monthly supplement to Blue Jean magazine, it featured interviews with international and Turkish bands, album and concert reviews, music history features, and collectible posters. Its publication run continued until September 2020, documenting more than a decade of rock and metal culture in Turkey.
This Turkish-language issue, dated November 2011, is the 55th issue of Headbang and features the legendary thrash metal “Big Four” Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax under the cover headline “Thrash’s Four Aces.” A major feature explores the origins of the Big Four, examining the musical developments of the 1980s and the punk and heavy metal influences that shaped thrash metal. The “Mosh” section includes concert impressions and an interview with guitarist Steve Lukather about his solo career. Other interviews cover Megadeth’s album Th1rt3en, its songwriting process, and working with Dave Mustaine, as well as Anthrax’s Worship Music, Joey Belladonna’s return, and the making of the band’s music videos.
Further coverage includes Mike Mushok discussing Staind’s heavier sound and return to their musical roots, along with conversation about Corey Taylor’s musical projects. Tomi Koivusaari discusses Amorphis’s album The Beginning of Times and the band’s concerts in Turkey, while Russell Allen talks about Symphony X’s dark, cinematic album Iconoclast and Mike Portnoy’s Adrenaline Mob project. The issue also features a review of Mr. Big’s Istanbul concert, Portnoy’s comments about the HAIL! project, and news about Cradle of Filth’s plans for a future orchestral album following their EP Evermore Darkly. Combining thrash metal history, contemporary album coverage, interviews, and concert reports, this issue offers a snapshot of the international metal scene in 2011.
