Ottoman Tapu (Deed) - Shop Share in Kürekçiler Çarşısı, Serez (Serres, Greece), 1888

Description:
An original Ottoman property deed (tapu) dated 2 Haziran 1304 AH (14 June 1888 CE), concerning a one-ninth share of a coppersmith’s shop located in the Kürekçiler Çarşısı, Serez (modern Serres, Greece).

The shop was part of the Ali Paşa Vakfı (endowment of Grand Vizier Ali Pasha), with an annual obligation of 1 kuruş payable to the vakıf. The deed specifies the boundaries of the shop as adjoining the properties of Selamizade Ali Bey, the descendants of İlyas Bey, and a road.

The share originally belonged to İlyas Beyzade Siyavuş Bey, who passed away in 1304 AH without leaving a male heir. Consequently, in accordance with vakıf property regulations, the vakıf repossessed the share and then sold it to İlyas Bey Efendi. The official value of the share was set at 880 kuruş.
