Description:
An original Ottoman property deed (tapu) from the Halep Vilayeti, Kilis Kazası, Tekir Mahallesi, dated March 1314 AH (March 1898 CE). The deed documents the sale of a helvacı dükkânı (halva confectionery shop).

  • Boundaries (Hududu):

    • East (şarken): Sahib-i sened (property owner)

    • West (garben): Vakıf property

    • North (şimalen): Sahib-i sened (property owner)

    • South (cenuben): Road (yol)

The deed begins with the phrase “teba-i Devlet-i Aliyye’nin Rum milletinden”, indicating that the original owners were Ottoman citizens of the Rum (Greek Orthodox) community. The shop belonged to Hanurk? oğlu İlyas, his mother Seyri?, and his sister Hita. They sold the property for 1500 kuruş to İbrahim Beyzade Ali Bey, a Muslim notable of Kilis.

This tapu is a remarkable historical document reflecting the presence and economic activity of the Rum community in Kilis during the late Ottoman period, showing how different communities coexisted and engaged in property transactions within the empire.
