Ottoman Empire 1922 Waqf Foundation Receipt Ankara Tokad

$50.00

Ottoman Receipt – Evkaf Treasury Waqf Administration), 1922

Description:
An original Ottoman financial receipt issued by the Evkaf Administration (Evkaf İdaresi), dated 10 Haziran 1338 (10 June 1922). The printed heading reads: “Evkaf idaresi veznesine teslim olunan mebaliğe mahsus makbuz” (“Receipt for funds delivered to the Evkaf Treasury”).

The document records that Halil Kemal Efendi delivered a sum of 8750 kuruş to the Tokad Evkaf Treasury, which was then transferred to the Ankara Evkaf Administration Treasury. The bottom section bears the signatures and seals of the treasurer and the director, confirming its authenticity.

The Evkaf (foundations) were responsible for managing Islamic charitable endowments (vakıf), which played a central role in Ottoman society by funding mosques, schools, hospitals, and other public services. This receipt thus provides direct evidence of the financial operations of the Evkaf system in the final years of the Ottoman Empire, just before the establishment of the Republic of Turkey.
