Ottoman Islamic Talisman Scroll – Protective Prayers & Charms (Hamayıl), Large Color-Printed Roll

Description:
An original large-format Ottoman talismanic scroll (hamayıl), printed in Arabic script and preserved in roll form. The scroll is complete and richly colored, containing a series of protective prayers, charms, and talismanic designs. Among the inscriptions and illustrations are duas and invocations against scorpion stings, the evil eye, bullets, calamities, sorcery, and misfortune, as well as ebced numerological tables.

Such talismanic scrolls (havass, spell charms, Islamic magic texts) were intended to be carried or kept for personal protection. While handwritten examples are known, color-printed and complete Ottoman specimens are rare survivals, making this piece a significant witness to the intersection of folk belief, Islamic spirituality, and Ottoman print culture.

The scroll is in good condition overall, though some stains are present in certain sections, consistent with its age and devotional use.
