Realite 1945 British Propaganda Mag Turkish Turkey French Victory Issue King George VI WW2 era Dunkirk Middle East
Réalité Magazine – “Victory Issue” (Numéro de la Victoire) – 1945 – Turkish/French Edition
Description:
Réalité was a weekly political current-affairs and propaganda magazine produced during the Second World War under the direction, funding and management of the British Ministry of Information (MoI). Published in Turkey, it presented international and regional developments from the perspective of the Allied powers, focusing on the progress of the war, military operations, the liberation of occupied territories and international diplomacy. Its bilingual editorial approach combined Turkish and French explanations, addressing readers in wartime Turkey.
This special Victory Issue (Numéro de la Victoire), published in 1945, features a distinctive cover decorated with curtains bearing the flags of the United States, Britain and the Soviet Union. At the centre, within an elegant framed composition, is a portrait of King George VI of Britain. The cover celebrates the Allied victory and reflects the central role of the major Allied powers in the conclusion of the war.
The opening pages examine Turkey's foreign policy, Atatürk's vision of peace and statements made by İsmet İnönü. The following section compares predictions and forecasts made by political leaders during the course of the war. One of the notable contributions is Halide Edip Adıvar's article, “Salute to the Women of Victory!”, highlighting the sacrifices and contributions of women in Britain's war industries and on the home front. The subsequent chronological sections trace major events of the war, beginning with the invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939, and the entry of Britain and France into the conflict. Further coverage includes British military activities in France, the Battle of the River Plate, the occupation of Norway, German offensives against Belgium and the Netherlands, Italy's entry into the war, the Dunkirk evacuation, Hitler's visit to Paris and General de Gaulle's appeals. The final pages turn to the liberation of Abyssinia and the Middle East in 1941, as well as the siege of Malta, whose resistance under intense aerial bombardment earned the island the description “Heroic Malta”.
