Şebek Fanzine – “Judas Priest and Rob Halford” – Issue #90, August 23, 1998 – Turkish Edition

Description:

Şebek was an independent Turkish heavy metal fanzine published during the 1990s, focusing on heavy, thrash, death, and black metal, as well as the wider underground music scene. At a time when the internet was not yet widely accessible, it played an important role in connecting Turkish metal fans with international bands, new releases, and developments that received little attention in mainstream media.

This Turkish-language issue, dated August 23, 1998, is the 90th issue of Şebek and features the legendary heavy metal band Judas Priest on the cover. Its major three-page feature explores the band’s musical history, conflicts with record labels, and early vocalist Al Atkins’s period with the group. It also examines Rob Halford’s departure from Judas Priest and his subsequent projects, Fight and 2wo. Additional coverage includes a detailed review of Bolt Thrower’s album Mercenary and a “Metal Lyrics House” feature focusing on the American heavy and power metal band Savatage, with particular attention to the albums Handful of Rain and Gutter Ballet.

The “Viking’s Ascent” series continues with its fifth instalment, examining the discography of Norwegian black metal band Satyricon. Meanwhile, the “Asilopedi” section continues its historical chronologies of Black Sheep, Brats, and Black Sabbath. With its in-depth Judas Priest retrospective and broad coverage of influential heavy metal bands, this issue offers a compelling snapshot of Turkey’s underground metal press in the late 1990s.
