Tintin – Land of Black Gold (Kara Altın) – Turkish Edition (Issues 3 & 4, Softcover, Black & White, Alfa Yayınları, 1980s)

Description:

This Turkish edition of Tintin – Land of Black Gold (Kara Altın) was published by Alfa Yayınları during the 1980s as part of the “Tenten Yeni Maceralar” series. The series followed a biweekly release schedule (every 15 days) and adopted a serialized publishing model rather than presenting complete Tintin adventures in single volumes.

Unlike many other stories in this series, Kara Altın is notable because its entire storyline is fully contained across Issues No. 3 and No. 4. Together, these two books form the complete Land of Black Gold adventure. Due to reduced page counts per issue, Alfa Yayınları generally divided Tintin stories across one and a half or two books to keep prices affordable. In this case, readers needed both consecutive issues to experience the full narrative.

The comic is printed in black and white and released in softcover format. This was a cost-driven decision rather than an artistic one. Since original Tintin albums had been published internationally in full color since 1941, producing color editions in Turkey would have significantly increased printing costs. As a result, Alfa Yayınları relied on copied source material and black-and-white reproduction, a common and practical approach in Turkey at the time.

An additional collector-oriented detail is the advertisement on the back cover, which promotes the Conan comic series published by Alfa Yayınları. Such publisher advertisements are typical of the era and add historical and contextual value to the issue pair.
