Description:

This Turkish edition of Tintin and the Lake of Sharks, published under the Turkish title Köpek Balığı Denizinde, is a unique entry in the Tintin universe, as it is based on the animated feature film rather than being directly adapted from an original Hergé comic album. It was released by Alfa Yayınları as part of its second Tintin series during the mid-1980s. Founded in 1978 by Ali Recan, Alfa Yayınları was a major force in Turkish comic publishing, issuing numerous Tintin titles throughout the 1980s after beginning Tintin publications in 1980.

The comic is presented in softcover format and printed entirely in black and white. This production approach was driven by economic necessity rather than artistic preference. Since original Tintin albums had been published in full color internationally from 1941 onward, producing color editions in Turkey would have required substantially higher printing costs. To keep production costs manageable, Alfa Yayınları reproduced the artwork in black and white, resulting in editions that today reflect the distinctive conditions of Turkish comic publishing in the 1980s.

This particular copy features a notable printing error: the Tintin and Snowy (Milu) logo located at the top left corner of the cover is misaligned (tilted). Such production errors are uncommon and are considered highly desirable among collectors, as they distinguish the copy from standard printings and add an additional layer of rarity and collectibility.

This volume is Book Number 23 of Alfa Yayınları’s second Tintin series, making it the final numbered book in the series. As such, it holds special significance for collectors aiming to complete the full mid-1980s Alfa Yayınları Tintin run.
