Vampirella – Issue #4 – Benli Yayınevi Turkish Edition (1976)

Description:

This comic is Issue #4 from the Turkish Vampirella series published by Benli Yayınevi between 1976 and 1978. The series ran for a total of 31 issues and represents one of the earliest dedicated Vampirella publications in Turkey. As with the previous issues, it was part of the initial weekly run of 34-page numbered editions, preceding the later shift in early 1977 to a monthly format with expanded, unnumbered issues.

Printed entirely in black and white and in a smaller comic book format (approximately 24 cm in height), this issue reflects the production standards of Turkish comics during the 1970s. The series continued to draw heavily from Warren Publishing’s Creepy and Eerie magazines, as well as other horror anthologies, presenting a curated mix of atmospheric horror and science fiction. This approach gives the publication a distinctive anthology structure, blending international material with localized presentation.

Issue #4 includes a Vampirella story from Vampirella #14 (1971), further developing the character’s early narrative tone and reinforcing the gothic science fiction elements that define her universe. The issue also features “Kurtlarla Kankardeşim,” adapted from Nightmare Magazine #22 (“When I Was a Boy I Watched the Blood-Wolfs”), adding a darker, more psychological layer to the anthology with its transformation and survival themes. In addition, Part 2 of “Vampirella ve Barbara” (from Vampirella #47, 1975 – Mother’s Coming Home) continues the storyline introduced in the previous issue, expanding its character-driven narrative.

The cover is adapted from Vampirella #37, maintaining the strong visual identity associated with the original series while presenting it in a uniquely Turkish format. As part of the early run, this issue contributes to the establishment of Vampirella’s presence in Turkey, offering a balanced mix of core character content and broader horror storytelling, making it a notable piece within the Benli Yayınevi series for collectors.
