1001 Özel #119 1954 Tarzan and the Veiled Man Turkish Comic Mag Turkey
1001 Özel – Issue No. 119 (December 4, 1954) – Turkish Comic Book
Description:
This is 1001 Özel Issue No. 119, published on December 4, 1954, from one of the earliest 1001 Özel series in Turkish comic book history. First launched in 1950, 1001 Özel was printed by Burhanettin Erenler Printing House and published biweekly under the ownership of Kemal Özcan. Although influential, the series was relatively short-lived.
1001 Özel was inspired by the highly popular 1001 Roman magazine that had a major cultural impact in Turkey during the early years of World War II. Unlike 1001 Roman, which included prose stories alongside comics, 1001 Özel focused exclusively on comics, typically presenting a single complete comic story per issue.
This issue features Tarzan – “Tarzan and the Veiled Man,” an action-packed jungle adventure starring Tarzan, the legendary character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The story revolves around Tarzan’s confrontation with a mysterious veiled figure, blending classic jungle action with intrigue and suspense.
One of the most notable aspects of this issue is its original cover artwork, created by a Turkish artist named Yılmaz. Rather than using a direct reproduction of foreign cover art, this locally illustrated cover offers a unique visual interpretation of Tarzan, significantly enhancing the issue’s collectibility. Such original artwork is a defining characteristic of many Turkish comic editions and is highly valued by collectors.
