1001 Özel – Issue No. 149 (July 4, 1955) – Turkish Comic Book

Description:

This is 1001 Özel Issue No. 149, dated July 4, 1955, part of the 1001 Özel comic book series an important yet short-lived publication in Turkish comic book history. First launched in 1950, 1001 Özel was printed at Burhanettin Erenler Printing House and published biweekly under the ownership of Kemal Özcan.

The series was clearly inspired by the influential 1001 Roman magazine of the early World War II era, which had made a major cultural impact in Turkey. Unlike 1001 Roman, however, 1001 Özel did not include prose stories. Each issue was dedicated entirely to a single comic character and storyline, making it a more focused and character-driven publication.

Issue No. 149 features Maskeli Süvari, the Turkish adaptation of The Lone Ranger. The Lone Ranger is a legendary American Western hero a masked former Texas Ranger who fights outlaws in the Old West alongside his Native American companion Tonto. This issue reflects the popularity of American Western characters in mid-20th-century Turkish comics and represents a localized presentation of a globally recognized figure.
