Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp – “Alaeddin ve Sihirli Lambası” (Turkish Edition, Turkish Historical Society, 1994)
Description:
This comic book is the Turkish edition of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp, published under the title Alaeddin ve Sihirli Lambası. It was printed in 1994 by the Turkish Historical Society (Türk Tarih Kurumu) with a total print run of 20,000 copies.
The artwork for this adaptation was created by Turkish comic artist Orhan Dündar. The series was produced with the aim of introducing classic literary works to younger readers through the comic book medium. While clearly inspired by the famous American Classics Illustrated series, this project placed strong emphasis on local production by commissioning Turkish artists to illustrate the stories, adding a distinctive national character to the adaptations.
Printed in full color and in Turkish, the comic presents the well-known tale of Aladdin in an accessible and visually engaging format. The combination of an internationally recognized story with locally produced artwork makes this issue especially notable within the landscape of Turkish comic publishing of the 1990s.
Today, this publication is of particular interest to collectors focusing on Turkish comic art, Classics Illustrated–inspired projects, and culturally oriented publications produced by official institutions.
