Binbir Roman – Bound Volume (Issues 1–50, 1948–1949) – Turkish Comic Magazine Collection - hard cover

Description:

This bound volume contains the first 50 issues of Binbir Roman, a Turkish comic magazine series that emerged as the direct continuation of the highly influential 1001 Roman magazine which dominated the Turkish comic scene in the 1940s. Following a change in ownership, the title was preserved in spirit but altered in form “1001” was replaced with its word-based equivalent “Binbir”, marking a new phase in the publication’s history.

Binbir Roman was published between 1948 and 1952, reaching a total of 213 issues. The volume offered here includes Issue No. 1 (dated May 19, 1948) through Issue No. 50 (dated April 27, 1949), bound together into a single collection. While primarily a comic magazine, Binbir Roman also featured prose stories alongside its illustrated content, continuing the mixed-format tradition of its predecessor.

This volume is especially highly collectible due to its complete inclusion of The Phantom (Kızıl Maske) storyline “The Game of Alvar.” This adventure ran across 30 consecutive issues, all of which are contained within this bound volume. Assembling all individual issues today is extremely difficult, making this collection a standout item for Phantom collectors and Golden Age comic historians alike.

Beyond The Phantom, the magazine features a rich lineup of classic adventure and detective characters, reflecting both international influences and localized adaptations popular in postwar Turkey. These include Mandrake the Magician, Nat Pinkerton, Brick Bradford, Kara Ali (the Turkish adaptation of Dick Fulmine), Müthiş Hakikat (based on stories by Anne Luce), and several World War II–themed comics, including Gizli Vazife.

This bound volume represents an exceptional snapshot of late-1940s Turkish comic culture, preserving a large and otherwise difficult-to-assemble run of historically important material in a single book.
