Binbir Roman #3 1948 The Phantom - Mandrake the Magician Turkish Comic Mag Turkey
Binbir Roman – Issue No. 3 (June 2, 1948) – Turkish Comic Magazine
Description:
This issue is Binbir Roman No. 3, dated June 2, 1948. It is a Turkish comic magazine series that emerged as the direct continuation of the highly influential 1001 Roman magazine which dominated the Turkish comic scene in the 1940s. Following a change in ownership, the title was preserved in spirit but altered in form “1001” was replaced with its word-based equivalent “Binbir”, marking a new phase in the publication’s history.
Binbir Roman was published between 1948 and 1952, reaching a total of 213 issues. While primarily a comic magazine, Binbir Roman also featured prose stories alongside its illustrated content, continuing the mixed-format tradition of its predecessor.
This particular issue features an installment of The Phantom (Kızıl Maske) storyline “The Game of Alvar.” The story ran serially across multiple issues, and early installments such as this are increasingly difficult to find, making this issue desirable for Phantom collectors and researchers of early international comic publications.
In addition to The Phantom, this issue includes a strong lineup of classic adventure and detective comics popular with Turkish readers of the period. Featured series include Mandrake the Magician, Nat Pinkerton, Brick Bradford, Kara Ali (the Turkish adaptation of Dick Fulmine), Müthiş Hakikat (based on stories by Anne Luce), and Gizli Vazife, a World War II–themed comic series.
This issue represents an important early example of postwar Turkish comic publishing and reflects how internationally known characters were adapted and serialized for local audiences.
