Corto Maltese – “Venedik Masalı” (Turkish Edition, Dost Kitabevi, 2004)

Description:

This comic book is part of a different Turkish Corto Maltese publication line released by Dost Kitabevi between 1999 and 2004. During this period, Dost Kitabevi published a total of ten Corto Maltese volumes in large-format editions, distinct from later Turkish releases in both presentation and printing style.

“Venedik Masalı” is the Turkish edition of Fable de Venise, published in 2004. Unlike the color editions released later by other publishers, this version is printed in black and white, closely reflecting Hugo Pratt’s original line work and atmospheric visual storytelling. The monochrome presentation enhances the moody, reflective tone that defines this particular story.

Set in Venice, the narrative blends history, myth, esoteric symbolism, and personal memory. Corto Maltese navigates a labyrinth of secret societies, hidden meanings, and historical echoes, making this one of the most intellectually rich and visually distinctive stories in the series. The city of Venice itself plays a central role, functioning almost as a character within the story.

Due to its large-format design, black-and-white printing, and limited publication window, the Dost Kitabevi Corto Maltese editions are especially valued by collectors who appreciate more classic and art-focused presentations of Hugo Pratt’s work.
