Korku Ülkesi (Dreadlands) – Issue #1 – Turkish Edition, Milliyet Dergi Yayınları (1990s)

Description:

This is the first Turkish issue of Korku Ülkesi, the local edition of Dreadlands, a fantasy-adventure comic originally published in the United States by Epic Comics. In Turkey, the series was released during the 1990s by Milliyet Dergi as a free give-away accompanying the Milliyet daily newspaper, rather than being sold commercially. A total of six issues were published in this format.

Dreadlands is known for blending classic fantasy elements with prehistoric creatures, heroic quests, and a darker, more atmospheric tone than typical children’s comics of its era. Originally conceived as a limited series, it reflects Epic Comics’ editorial approach in the late 1980s and early 1990s: creator-driven stories, experimental worlds, and a slightly more mature narrative style compared to mainstream superhero titles.

This Turkish Issue #1 is printed in full color and adapted for a younger readership, including a distinctive back-cover feature titled “How to Draw a Triceratops.” This instructional page, aimed specifically at children, adds an educational and interactive aspect that sets this issue apart from standard comic publications. Combined with its newspaper distribution, short print run, and colorful presentation, this issue represents a nostalgic example of 1990s Turkish newspaper comics and holds particular appeal for collectors of Epic Comics adaptations and Milliyet give-away editions.
