This is Issue #2 of the Turkish Groo Series published by Alfa Yayınları in 1989. The Series consisted of a total of 7 issues and was printed in Turkish in black and white. Groo the Wanderer, created by Sergio Aragonés, first appeared in 1982 and quickly became one of the most distinctive parody characters in modern comics. Conceived as a satirical take on the sword-and-sorcery boom of the era particularly as a parody of Conan the Barbarian Groo blends absurd humor, chaotic battle scenes, and razor-sharp visual comedy. Aragonés is internationally celebrated for his incredibly detailed backgrounds, layered sight gags, and dense panel compositions that reward careful reading.

The Turkish Alfa Yayınları edition is notable for its unconventional reproduction method. Instead of fully preserving Aragonés’ richly detailed original artwork, the pages were reportedly traced using transfer paper techniques, reproducing primarily the foreground figures while omitting much of the intricate background detail. As a result, the visual density and comedic layering of the original material were significantly reduced. This production choice limited the Series’ longevity in Turkey, and the run concluded after 7 issues.

Issue #2 was published in 1989 and features a cover taken directly from Groo the Wanderer issue #4 published by Marvel/Epic Comics. In addition to the Groo material, this issue also includes En Büyük Barbar, another Conan parody illustrated by Turkish artist Gürhan Doğaç. The inclusion of a locally created parody alongside Sergio Aragonés’ internationally known character creates an interesting contrast, reflecting how global comic influences were interpreted within the Turkish comic scene of the late 1980s.
