Renkli Teksas – Issue #1 – “Teksas Avcılarının Şefi Çelik Blek” (Il Grande Blek - Trappers alla Riscossa) – Turkish Edition, Hoz Comics (2004)

Description:

This comic is Issue #1 from the Renkli Teksas series published in Turkey by Hoz Comics in 2004. The series was released at fifteen-day intervals and aimed to reintroduce the classic Teksas character to Turkish readers in a full-color format. Despite this ambitious publishing schedule, the series had a relatively short run and concluded after a total of fourteen issues.

Although the character is widely known in Turkey under the name Teksas, the original Italian series is titled Il Grande Blek. First published in Italy on October 3, 1954 by Editoriale Dardo, the comic was created by the famous artistic trio Giovanni Sinchetto, Dario Guzzon, and Pietro Sartoris, collectively known as EsseGesse. Their work became one of the defining examples of post-war Italian adventure comics.

The series is set during the American Revolutionary War and follows the adventures of Blek, a powerful frontiersman and leader of a group of trappers fighting against British colonial forces, commonly represented in the stories as the oppressive Redcoats. The narrative combines frontier adventure, guerrilla warfare, and heroic resistance, which contributed to the character’s lasting popularity across several European countries and particularly in Turkey.

This issue presents the story “Teksas Avcılarının Şefi Çelik Blek,” adapted from the original Il Grande Blek story “Trappers alla Riscossa.” Unlike many earlier Turkish editions of the character, which were frequently printed in black and white, the Renkli Teksas series was produced entirely in color, bringing the classic adventures of Blek closer to their original visual presentation.

For collectors, this publication represents a later attempt to revive the long-standing popularity of Teksas in Turkey. The full-color printing, combined with the short lifespan of the series and its limited number of issues, makes the Renkli Teksas run an interesting and relatively uncommon modern Turkish edition of the Il Grande Blek adventures.
