Korku – Issue (September 1974) – Turkish Horror Comics Magazine

Description:

Korku is a Turkish horror comics magazine series published monthly between 1971 and 1977, reaching a total of 79 issues. Measuring approximately 22 x 16 cm, the magazine is primarily known for presenting Turkish translations of classic American horror comics. Its content was largely sourced from Warren Publishing titles such as Creepy, Eerie, Vampirella, and Blazing Combat, later expanding to include material from other publishers like Skywald (Scream, Nightmare), Marvel (Dracula Lives!, Vampire Tales, Tales of the Zombie), and Charlton (Space: 1999), along with occasional original Turkish stories. This structure made Korku a unique bridge between American horror comics and Turkish readers of the 1970s.

This particular issue, published in September 1974, includes a strong lineup of stories primarily drawn from Creepy #59 and #61, as well as Eerie #56. Featured works include A Dark and Violent Place by Donald F. McGregor and Adolfo Abellan, Spare That Tree! by Jack Butterworth and Martin Salvador, and Curiosity Killed the Cat by Douglas Moench and Paul Neary. Additional stories such as Twisted Medicine by Steve Skeates and Leo Summers, Encore Ghastly by Tom Sutton, and Dr. Archaeus: The Night of the Red Death by Gerry Boudreau and Isidro Mones further enrich the issue with classic horror themes, atmospheric storytelling, and moral twists typical of Warren-era publications.

What makes this issue particularly collectible is its iconic cover. The artwork is a variant color adaptation of Frank Frazetta’s legendary Vampirella #1 cover, originally created for the debut issue of Vampirella in the United States. In this Turkish edition, the cover has been uniquely recolored, resulting in a distinct regional variation not found in the original Warren Publishing release. This combination of historically significant artwork and classic horror content makes the issue highly desirable for collectors of both international comics and Frazetta’s work.
