Red Kit (Lucky Luke) – Issue 10 – Bilge Şakrak Yayınevi (1972)

Description:

This is Issue #10 of the Red Kit comic series, published in Turkey under the Bilge Şakrak Yeni Seri in 1972. The series is a Turkish adaptation of the original Belgian Lucky Luke comics created by Morris. In this edition, the character’s name was changed to “Red Kit,” and the comics were printed in Turkish and black and white. While the original European albums were in full color, the Turkish publisher reduced production costs by having local artists retrace the original illustrations onto acetate sheets, producing a black-and-white edition. This method resulted in artwork that differs visually from the European originals.

A distinctive and collectible feature of this Turkish series is the cover art. Unlike the original Lucky Luke albums, the covers were newly drawn by Turkish artists, giving the series a unique visual identity and increasing its appeal among collectors.

Issue #10, titled Hayaletler Şehri, adapts the story from the original Lucky Luke album La Ville Fantôme. In addition to the main Red Kit story, this issue includes several extra short stories: Gil Gordon (Gil Jourdan), Gaston (Spirou et Fantasio), and Marc Lebut (Marc Lebut et son voisin). These supplementary stories reflect the common editorial practice of Turkish comics at the time, providing additional content to enrich the volume and offer variety to readers.

Overall, Red Kit (Lucky Luke) – Issue 10 exemplifies early 1970s Turkish comic publishing, reflecting adaptation practices, cost-saving production methods, and localized artistic contributions that differentiate it from the original European editions.
