Ottoman 1876 Land Deed Larissa Greece Farm Estate Title Deed Balkans

$300.00

Rare Ottoman Deed for a Farm Estate in Yenişehir-i Fenar (Larissa), Dated October 24, 1876

Description:
This is an exceptionally rare Ottoman land deed (tapu) dated October 24, 1876 (5 Şevval 1293 AH), issued for a large farm estate located in the Yenişehir-i Fenar district of Tırhala Sanjak, corresponding to modern-day Larissa, Greece.

The property includes agricultural land along with structures such as a hay barn (samanhane), and was sold under direct imperial order to İbrahim Pasha for the substantial sum of 94,745 Ottoman gold coins (yüzlük altın) a powerful indication of the estate's value and strategic significance.

What makes this document especially extraordinary and historically unique is the inclusion of explicit socio-political restrictions within the deed:

  • The land could not be sold to non-Muslims (ecnebi).

  • It was strictly forbidden to host or settle any individual of Greek ethnicity (Yunan milletinden) within the estate.

These rare conditions, directly recorded in an official title deed, reflect the ethno-religious tensions and demographic policies of the late Ottoman Empire during a period of territorial instability in the Balkans. Such clauses are highly unusual in Ottoman legal documents and make this artifact an exceptionally valuable piece for collectors, historians, or institutions focusing on Ottoman-Balkan relations, land ownership, or ethno-political history.
