Ottoman Tapu (Deed) – Agricultural Land in Danışmend Çiftliği, Sorgun, Yozgat (1909)

Description:
This fascinating Ottoman-era land deed from Danışmend Çiftliği, Sorgun, Yozgat, dated 15 Nisan 1319 AH (28 April 1909 CE), offers a rare glimpse into both local property ownership and the presence of Armenian citizens in central Anatolia. The plot, located in the Çorak area as number 6, originally belonged in part to Ruben Papazyan, an Armenian Ottoman citizen holding one of seven shares.

What makes this document particularly remarkable is that Ruben Papazyan sold his share for 250 kuruş to Şehzade-İ Civan Baht Devletlü Necabetlü Yusuf İzzeddin Efendi, the eldest son of Sultan Abdülaziz and heir to the Ottoman throne after Sultan Mehmed V’s accession in 1909. Izzeddin, a field marshal in the imperial army by 1910, died under mysterious circumstances in 1916, making this deed a unique connection between rural property, minority ownership, and Ottoman royalty.

Collectors and historians will find this document invaluable for its insight into early 20th-century land transactions, minority presence in Yozgat, and the Ottoman imperial lineage.
