Ottoman Agricultural Land Title Deed of Kirkor Arabyan and Levon Arabyan – Sakızlı Village, Adana, 1910

Description:

This original Ottoman Turkish land document records the sale of agricultural property in Sakızlı village, within the Yüreğir district of Adana, dated 23 Kanun-ı Sani 1325 (5 February 1910). According to the document, the land originally belonged to Kalos Buldukyan, son of Mıgırdiç Buldukyan Efendi, as established by an earlier title deed dated 1309, bearing registration number 54. The present document records the transfer of portions of this agricultural property to two separate buyers.

The original holding comprised 175 dönüm of agricultural land. Kalos Buldukyan sold 85 dönüm to Kirkor, son of Karabet Arabyan, for 10,500 kuruş, and a further 85 dönüm to Levon, son of Karabet Arabyan, for the same amount. The two transactions therefore totalled 21,000 kuruş. The deed preserves the names of the seller and both buyers, the quantities of land transferred and the recorded sale prices, providing a detailed account of an agricultural property transaction in the late Ottoman period.

The fact that the seller and both purchasers were Armenian residents makes this document particularly relevant to the history of Adana's Armenian community. The recorded transaction offers evidence of landholding and the transfer of agricultural property between Armenian individuals in the region. Together with the village name, land measurements and financial details, it provides a valuable glimpse into the rural economy and property relations of the Adana region during the final years of the Ottoman Empire.

For collectors of Ottoman documents, Armenian heritage and the agricultural history of Anatolia, this deed is a compelling primary source. Its documentation of a substantial land transaction involving Kalos Buldukyan, Kirkor Arabyan and Levon Arabyan, combined with the precise sale amounts and official stamps and seals, makes it an important historical record for research into Armenian landownership and the rural history of Adana.
