Ottoman 1912 Land Deed Field in Manisa Kırkağaç Bakır Title Deed Hadji
Ottoman Property Deed – Field in Bakır Village, Kırkağaç (Manisa), 1912
Description:
Dated April 7, 1912, this Ottoman deed documents the inheritance and subsequent redistribution of an 8 dönüm field in Bakır Village, within the Kırkağaç district of Saruhan (modern-day Manisa). The land had belonged to Hacı Musa’s son, Hacı Şerif Mehmed, an Ottoman citizen, who had passed away in 1909 (1325 A.H.) without holding a formal deed. Upon his death, the property passed to his children: his son Musa and his daughters Atike and Fatma.
The siblings reached an agreement: the entire field was allocated to Musa, while another property inherited from their father located near a mosque foundation (cami vakfı) was assigned to the sisters. This deed is thus a striking example of Ottoman family inheritance practices and the interplay between private property and religious foundations. For collectors, it offers both genealogical value and insight into how rural Ottoman families structured their estates. The presence of revenue stamps (pûl) and multiple seals enhances its authenticity and historical appeal.
