Musavver Tarih-i İslâm (Illustrated History of Islam) is the Ottoman Turkish translation of a broad history of Islam by Seyyid Emir Ali, translated into Ottoman Turkish by Mehmed Rauf. The present volume contains Volumes I and II bound together and was published in Istanbul by Kanaat Matbaası in 1329 (approximately 1914). The work approaches Islamic history from a broad social, political and cultural perspective, beginning with the condition of Arab society before Islam and continuing through the major Islamic dynasties and regional civilizations.

A substantial part of the work examines the development of Arab society, including its intellectual, social and economic advancement and subsequent periods of decline. The opening historical framework begins with the social, economic and religious conditions of the Arabian Peninsula before Islam, providing background for the emergence of Islam and the transformation that followed.

The narrative then turns to the life of the Prophet Muhammad (Siyer), his prophethood and the formation of the first Muslim community, including the establishment of the early Islamic social and political order in Medina. The period of the Hulefâ-yi Râşidîn (Four Rightly Guided Caliphs) follows, covering the institutional development of the Islamic state, the early conquests and the first internal political developments within the Muslim community.

The work continues with the major Islamic states and dynasties, including the Umayyads and their administration centered in Damascus, followed by the Abbasids and the development of Baghdad as an important center of learning. It also covers regional Islamic civilizations such as the Umayyad state of al-Andalus, associated with major developments in science and art in Europe, and the Fatimids of North Africa and Egypt.
