Silver Surfer – Issue #10 – Marvel Çizgi Roman Turkish Edition (1988)

Description:

This comic is Issue #10 from the short-lived Turkish Silver Surfer series published by Marvel Çizgi Roman between 1987 and 1988. The series ran for a total of 14 issues and represents one of the earliest Turkish publications dedicated entirely to Marvel’s cosmic hero, the Silver Surfer.

Unlike the original American editions, which were printed in full color, the Turkish version was produced entirely in black and white. This decision was primarily made to reduce production costs. Instead of printing directly from the original color plates, the artwork was carefully retraced using tracing paper techniques, allowing the publisher to reproduce the iconic illustrations in monochrome form. As a result, these editions have a distinctive visual character that differs noticeably from their American counterparts.

The physical format of the Turkish edition is also slightly smaller than the original U.S. comics, reflecting the printing standards commonly used by Turkish comic publishers during the 1980s. Despite these differences, the series holds a unique place in Turkish comic history, introducing readers to the philosophical and cosmic adventures of the Silver Surfer during a time when Marvel material was still relatively rare in the Turkish market.

The cover of this issue is adapted from Fantasy Masterpieces Vol. 2 issue #12. Unlike many other issues in the series that focus exclusively on the Silver Surfer’s original solo adventures, this edition presents a complete three-part storyline drawn from the Fantastic Four series.

The stories included here form a connected narrative arc originally published in Fantastic Four issues #155–157. Beginning with “Soylu Savaş” (Battle Royal), the storyline continues with “Orta Oyunu” (Middle Game) and concludes with “Oyunun Sonu” (And Now The Endgame Cometh). These chapters represent a classic mid-1970s Fantastic Four saga that blends large-scale superhero conflict with the strategic and character-driven storytelling typical of the series during this era.

The inclusion of a full three-part Fantastic Four storyline within this Turkish Silver Surfer publication reflects the flexible editorial approach often taken by comic publishers in Turkey during the 1980s, where material featuring connected Marvel characters was sometimes combined within the same series. For collectors, this creates an interesting crossover element that ties the Silver Surfer’s cosmic world to the broader Marvel Universe through one of its flagship teams.
