Originally titled Storia del West (“History of the West”), the series was created in 1967 by Italian comic authors Gino D'Antonio and Renzo Calegari. The series is widely recognized for its historically grounded storytelling and documentary-like narrative style. Rather than focusing solely on fictional frontier heroes, it presents a detailed and carefully researched chronicle of the American frontier, combining dramatic storytelling with real historical developments.
The central narrative follows the MacDonald family, Irish immigrants whose lives unfold during the turbulent decades of westward expansion in the nineteenth century. This fifth Turkish volume collects stories #17 through #20 from the original series. The story Uzak Ufuklar (Orizzonti lontani) continues the theme of westward expansion, reflecting the hopes and uncertainties faced by settlers moving toward distant and unfamiliar territories. The narrative then proceeds with Posta Arabası (La diligenza), a classic western episode centered on stagecoach travel, an essential yet dangerous means of transportation across the frontier.
The third story, Ölüm Suyu (Acqua di morte), explores the harsh realities of survival in the wilderness, where scarce resources and hostile environments often determined the fate of frontier communities.
