Süper Korku – Issue #15 – 1984 – Alfa Yayınları Turkish Edition (Dax the Warrior Special Issue)

Description:

This comic magazine is Issue #15 from the Süper Korku series published by Alfa Yayınları between 1983 and 1984. The series ran for a total of 24 issues, with the first 10 issues released in a large format (27 × 19 cm), followed by a smaller format (19 × 14 cm) for the remaining issues. It represents one of the notable horror anthology publications of early 1980s Turkey, bringing together a wide range of American horror comics for local readers.

Printed in black and white and in small format, this later issue reflects the second phase of the series, where the publication shifted to a more compact size while continuing to deliver dense horror content. Issues #11–24 focused more heavily on American Marvel and Warren material, including titles such as Dracula Lives!, Kull and the Barbarians, Savage Sword of Conan, Tales of the Zombie, The Tomb of Dracula, as well as Creepy, Eerie, Monster World, and Vampirella. This period also occasionally included serialized text features, further enriching the reading experience.

Issue #15 is a special Dax the Warrior issue, entirely dedicated to the sword-and-sorcery character featured in Warren Publishing’s Eerie magazine. Unlike the typical mixed-anthology structure of the series, this issue stands out by focusing exclusively on Dax stories, offering a cohesive and character-driven reading experience. The cover is adapted from Frank Frazetta’s iconic Dax the Warrior artwork for Eerie Magazine, immediately signaling the issue’s thematic focus and enhancing its visual appeal for collectors.

The issue includes multiple Dax the Warrior stories such as “Kara Ölüm,” “Cehennem Ağacı” (Eerie #40), “Kötü Ruh Uyanmasın,” “Savaşçı Dax ve Satranç,” “Dax ve Vampir,” “Bir Efsane,” and “Savaşçı Dax Ölüm Meleğine Aşık.” These stories combine elements of dark fantasy, horror, and sword-and-sorcery, reflecting the brutal and atmospheric world that defines the Dax character. The consistent focus on a single character gives this issue a unique place within the Süper Korku series, which typically blends multiple unrelated horror narratives.

For collectors, this issue is particularly desirable due to its complete Dax the Warrior theme, Frank Frazetta cover artwork, and its deviation from the standard anthology format. It represents both a stylistic and editorial highlight within the later phase of the series.
