Süper Korku – Issue #3 – 1983 – Alfa Yayınları Turkish Edition

Description:

This comic magazine is Issue #3 from the Süper Korku series published by Alfa Yayınları between 1983 and 1984. The series ran for a total of 24 issues, with the first 10 issues released in a large format (27 × 19 cm), followed by a smaller format (19 × 14 cm) for the remaining issues. It represents one of the notable horror anthology publications of early 1980s Turkey, bringing together a wide range of American horror comics for local readers.

Printed in black and white and in large format, this early issue reflects the higher production ambitions of the series’ initial phase. The content of Issues #1–10 consists of a mix of a few original Turkish comic stories alongside a strong emphasis on translated material from American Marvel and Warren publications. These include titles such as Bizarre Adventures, The Conan Saga, Epic Illustrated, Kull the Conqueror, Monsters Unleashed!, The Savage Sword of Conan, Supernatural Thrillers, Tales of the Zombie, Tower of Shadows, Vampire Tales, as well as Creepy and Vampirella. This editorial approach created a dense and varied horror anthology appealing to collectors and genre enthusiasts.

Issue #3 presents a particularly diverse and atmospheric selection of stories, blending horror, dark fantasy, and psychological tension. Highlights include “İki Defa Ölmek İçin” (Tales of the Zombie #7), continuing Marvel’s grim and reflective take on undead narratives, and “Ölümün Soğuk Elleri” (The Cold Hands of Death, The Savage Sword of Conan #25), featuring Solomon Kane in a story that merges sword-and-sorcery with gothic horror elements. “Tarn’ın Dünyası” (Tarn’s World, Epic Illustrated #2) adds a visually rich and experimental tone, reflecting the more artistic direction of Marvel’s Epic line.

The issue also includes “Yumurta,” a photoroman by J. K. Potter and Tim Caldwell, offering a distinctive visual experience through photographic storytelling, and “Jenifer” (Creepy #63), a well-known and unsettling Warren story that has become a memorable piece among horror comic readers for its disturbing narrative and lasting impact. The cover is adapted from Vampirella #65, reinforcing the connection to Warren’s iconic horror aesthetic.

For collectors, this issue stands out for its strong combination of Marvel and Warren material, the inclusion of a Solomon Kane story, and the presence of “Jenifer,” one of the more recognized horror stories from Creepy. As part of the large-format early run, it offers both visual impact and content depth, making it a desirable entry in the Süper Korku series.
