Süper Korku – Issue #4 – 1983 – Alfa Yayınları Turkish Edition

Description:

This comic magazine is Issue #4 from the Süper Korku series published by Alfa Yayınları between 1983 and 1984. The series ran for a total of 24 issues, with the first 10 issues released in a large format (27 × 19 cm), followed by a smaller format (19 × 14 cm) for the remaining issues. It represents one of the notable horror anthology publications of early 1980s Turkey, bringing together a wide range of American horror comics for local readers.

Printed in black and white and in large format, this early issue reflects the higher production ambitions of the series’ initial phase. The content of Issues #1–10 consists of a mix of a few original Turkish comic stories alongside a strong emphasis on translated material from American Marvel and Warren publications. These include titles such as Bizarre Adventures, The Conan Saga, Epic Illustrated, Kull the Conqueror, Monsters Unleashed!, The Savage Sword of Conan, Supernatural Thrillers, Tales of the Zombie, Tower of Shadows, Vampire Tales, as well as Creepy and Vampirella. This editorial approach created a dense and varied horror anthology appealing to collectors and genre enthusiasts.

Issue #4 presents a focused yet compelling selection of horror narratives rooted in classic themes of the supernatural and the unknown. Featured stories include “Damballah” (from Bizarre Adventures #33 / Tales of the Zombie), which explores voodoo-inspired horror within Marvel’s darker storytelling tradition, and “Görünmeyen Adam” (The Invisible Man, Supernatural Thrillers #2), a comic adaptation of the iconic science fiction horror concept centered on invisibility and its psychological consequences.

The issue also includes “Kurt Adam” (The Man Who Cried Werewolf!, Monsters Unleashed #1), written by Robert Bloch, bringing a literary horror pedigree to the anthology. This story combines psychological tension with classic werewolf mythology, reflecting the mature tone typical of Marvel’s black-and-white magazine line. The cover is adapted from Epic Illustrated (December 1982), giving the issue a distinctive visual identity aligned with Marvel’s more artistic and experimental publication line.

For collectors, this issue stands out for its literary connections, including Robert Bloch’s contribution, and its blend of voodoo horror, science fiction, and classic monster storytelling. As part of the large-format early run, it offers a strong representation of the editorial diversity that defines the Süper Korku series.
