Supermen – Volume 1 – Süper Seri Turkish Edition, Bilka Yayınları (circa 1989)

Description:

This volume is the first collected edition from the Supermen series published by Bilka Yayınları under the Süper Seri title between 1989 and 1996. The name “Supermen” reflects the localized Turkish usage of the character’s name during the period, representing a distinctive cultural adaptation rather than a direct translation.

The Süper Seri line consists of 80 volumes and is a compiled edition of an earlier Bilka publishing initiative: a 143-issue extra series released between 1982 and 1994. In a common publishing practice of the time in Turkey, unsold issues from the original run were later combined—typically two issues per volume—and reissued with newly illustrated covers to create the impression of new releases. This approach resulted in unique collected editions that differ significantly from their original American counterparts.

Volume 1 includes Issue #1 and Issue #2 from the original 143-issue series and presents a diverse selection of stories from multiple classic Superman sources.

The volume features the full four-part “Karmang” storyline from All-New Collectors Edition Vol. 1 #58:
“Karmang’ın Büyüsü” (Part 1), “Karmang’ın Şatosu” (Part 2), “Şazem” (Part 3), and Part 4. This extended narrative blends fantasy elements with traditional Superman storytelling.

In addition, several standalone stories are included:
“Arkadan Vurdu” from Superman (1939) #389, “Seni Öldüreceğim” from Superman (1939) #390, “İçimdeki Düşman” from The Superman Movie Special (1983), and “Gece Yarısı Güneşi” from World’s Finest #294.

As with many Turkish publications of the era, the stories are compiled in a mixed order and do not follow the original U.S. publication chronology, adding a unique editorial character to the volume.

Although originally published in full color in the U.S., this edition is primarily black and white due to production limitations, with partial colorization present in this early volume. The cover is illustrated by a Turkish artist, making it distinct from original American editions and increasing its collector value.

As the first volume of the series, this book holds particular importance for collectors, combining early printing characteristics, original cover art, and a diverse selection of Bronze Age material.
