Supermen – Volume 12 – Süper Seri Turkish Edition, Bilka Yayınları (circa 1990)

Description:

This volume is part of the Supermen series published by Bilka Yayınları under the Süper Seri title between 1989 and 1996. The name “Supermen” reflects the localized Turkish usage of the character’s name during the period, representing a distinctive cultural adaptation rather than a direct translation.

The Süper Seri line consists of 80 volumes and is a compiled edition of an earlier Bilka publishing initiative: a 143-issue extra series released between 1982 and 1994. In a common publishing practice of the time in Turkey, unsold issues from the original run were later combined—typically two issues per volume—and reissued with newly illustrated covers to create the impression of new releases. This approach resulted in unique collected editions that differ significantly from their original American counterparts.

As with many Turkish publications of the era, the stories are compiled in a mixed order and do not follow the original U.S. publication chronology, adding a unique editorial character to the volume. Although originally published in full color in the U.S., this edition is primarily black and white due to production limitations, with partial colorization present in this volume. The cover is illustrated by a Turkish artist, making it distinct from original American editions and increasing its collector value.

Volume 12 includes Issue #23 and Issue #24 from the original 143-issue series and presents a varied anthology of stories featuring Superman alongside Flash, Supergirl, and World’s Finest-related content. This volume highlights the series’ continued use of crossover storytelling and multi-character selection drawn from different DC titles.

The Superman-centered story “Geleceğin Adamı” (Superman (1939) #378) explores themes associated with futuristic challenges and the evolving nature of heroism, while “Öldü, Herşey Bitti” (Superman (1939) #383) delivers a dramatic narrative focusing on high stakes and consequential outcomes. “Cinayet Şebekesi” (Action Comics (1938) #533) adds a mystery-driven storyline within the broader Superman mythos.

The volume also includes crossover and team-oriented content such as “Muhteşem Yaratık” (World’s Finest Comics (1941) #274) and “Elveda Dostum” (World’s Finest Comics (1941) #196), which feature collaborative dynamics between major DC characters. “Kızıl Şimşek” (Flash (1959) #295) introduces a Flash-centered narrative, contributing speed-based action and a different tonal perspective.

A significant portion of the volume is dedicated to Supergirl through The Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #1, #2, and #3, including “İnanılır Gibi Değil,” “Hayır Lütfen Dur,” and “Bırak Beni Süperkız.” These consecutive issues form a connected narrative arc that establishes Supergirl’s character development and standalone storytelling within the DC universe.

This combination of Superman, Supergirl, Flash, and crossover stories demonstrates the anthology nature of the volume, offering collectors a broad and interconnected selection of Silver and Bronze Age material presented in a Turkish collected format.
