Süper Tarzan – Volume 8 – Turkish Edition, Şiiler Yayınevi (Late 1970s)

Description:

This comic is Volume 8 from the Süper Tarzan series, a Turkish comic collection published by Şiiler Yayınevi in the late 1970s. The series consisted of a total of nine volumes and represents one of several examples from the period where internationally known adventure characters were adapted and marketed to Turkish readers under familiar names.

Although the cover prominently features the name Tarzan, the stories inside actually belong to the Italian comic character Akim. This was a relatively common publishing practice in Turkey at the time. Because Tarzan was already widely recognized and popular among Turkish readers, publishers occasionally marketed similar jungle adventure comics under the Tarzan name in order to increase sales and attract a broader audience.

Akim is the title character of an Italian adventure comic series created by writer Roberto Renzi and illustrator Augusto Pedrazza. The series follows a powerful jungle hero and is strongly inspired by the Tarzan archetype, often described as a “Tarzanesque” comic. First appearing in Italy during the 1950s, Akim became one of the more popular European jungle adventure characters and was widely distributed in various international markets.

This Turkish edition is printed in black and white and features cover artwork illustrated by a Turkish artist rather than reproducing the original European covers. Because of this, each volume has a unique visual interpretation created specifically for the Turkish market, which adds to the collectible appeal of the series.

For collectors, the Süper Tarzan series represents an interesting example of how international comic characters were localized and marketed in Turkey during the late 1970s. The combination of Italian comic content, Turkish cover artwork, and the unusual use of the Tarzan name for Akim stories makes this series a distinctive and collectible part of Turkish comic publishing history.
