Tex – Issue #1 – “Mefisto” – Bosnian Edition, Veseli Četvrtak (2008)

Description:

This comic is Issue #1 of a Bosnian-language Tex publication released in 2008 by Veseli Četvrtak. Printed in black and white, the book represents the first issue of the publisher’s Tex releases in Bosnia. Although it is numbered as Issue #1 in this edition, the story itself corresponds to the much later storyline numbered #501 in the original Italian Tex series.

Tex is a classic Italian Western comic series created by writer Gianluigi Bonelli and artist Aurelio Galleppini, also known as Galep. First introduced in Italy in 1948, the character quickly became one of the most popular and longest-running Western comic heroes in Europe. The series combines action, adventure, and frontier justice within the setting of the American Old West.

The comic takes its name from its main character Tex Willer, a fearless Texas Ranger known for his strong sense of justice and uncompromising personality. Tex operates across the American frontier fighting criminals, bandits, corrupt officials, and other threats. In addition to being a ranger, Tex is also the chief of the Navajo Nation in the stories, where he is known among the Native Americans as “Night Eagle.” As a character, Tex is portrayed as someone who strongly opposes discrimination and prejudice, and while he respects justice, he is not afraid to bend rules or resort to force when necessary to defend the innocent.

This issue contains the story titled “Mefisto,” one of the most famous recurring adversaries in the Tex universe. Mefisto is a mysterious and dangerous villain known for his mastery of illusion, manipulation, and psychological warfare. Over the decades, the character became one of Tex Willer’s most formidable enemies, appearing in several major story arcs within the long-running series.

Although this Bosnian publication begins with Issue #1 under the Veseli Četvrtak imprint, the story itself originates from much later in the original Italian chronology, where it is numbered as story #501. Like most traditional Tex publications, the comic is printed in black and white, preserving the classic visual style associated with the series.

For collectors, this edition represents an interesting international version of the Tex comics. As the first issue released by the Bosnian publisher Veseli Četvrtak, it marks the beginning of their Tex publications while simultaneously presenting a much later and well-known storyline from the original Italian series.
