Doğan Kardeş Magazine Collection - Tintin in Congo – Complete 26-Issue Set (1951–1952, Turkish Edition)

Description:

This exceptional collection consists of 26 original issues of the Turkish children’s magazine Doğan Kardeş, featuring the complete serialized publication of Tintin in Congo. Published between December 13, 1951, and June 5, 1952, this series marks the very first time a Tintin story was published in Turkey under its original name. Each issue included one page of the Tintin story, and across all 26 issues, the full adventure was completed.

Due to Doğan Kardeş’s editorial stance at the time, which was largely opposed to traditional comic books, the Tintin story was deliberately adapted into a picture-story format, with extensive explanatory text added beneath the panels. This resulted in a unique narrative structure unlike any other Tintin publication. To further align with local storytelling traditions, several characters were reinterpreted: Captain Haddock was presented as Tintin’s uncle, while Professor Calculus was introduced as his father.

The magazines were printed in black and white and softcover, primarily due to economic constraints. As original Tintin albums had been published in color since 1941, full-color printing was prohibitively expensive in Turkey, leading publishers to reproduce the artwork in black and white. Today, finding the complete story across all 26 original issues is extremely difficult, making this set one of the rarest and most important Tintin-related collectibles in Turkey.
