Tintin – Prisoners of the Sun (Güneş Tutsakları) – Turkish Edition (Issue 9, Softcover, Black & White, Alfa Yayınları, 1980s)

Description:

This Turkish edition of Tintin – Prisoners of the Sun (Güneş Tutsakları) was published by Alfa Yayınları during the 1980s as part of the “Tenten Yeni Maceralar” series. The series was released on a biweekly schedule (every 15 days) and followed a serialized publishing model rather than presenting complete Tintin adventures in a single volume.

Issue No. 9 contains Part 1 of the story Güneş Tutsakları. In this Alfa Yayınları series, Tintin stories were generally divided across one and a half to two separate issues. Due to lower page counts, a full-length Tintin adventure could not fit into a single book. To keep prices affordable, longer stories were deliberately split, requiring readers to collect consecutive issues in order to complete the narrative.

The comic is printed in black and white and presented in softcover format. This choice was driven entirely by cost considerations. Since original Tintin albums had been published internationally in full color since 1941, producing color editions in Turkey would have resulted in significantly higher printing expenses. As a result, publishers relied on black-and-white reproduction using copied materials, a common practice in the Turkish comic market of the period
