Ottoman Turkish Map - “Turkey during the Seljuk Empire Period” (1923)
Description:
This map, titled “Selçuklular Döneminde Türkiye” (“Turkey during the Seljuk Period”), comes from Rıza Nur’s Türk Tarihi, published in 1342 Hijri (1923), shortly after the foundation of the Republic of Turkey. As the alphabet reform (Harf Devrimi) had not yet been implemented, the text on the map is in Ottoman Turkish written in Arabic script, not Latin script. The Harf Devrimi (Alphabet Reform) was implemented on 1 November 1928, replacing the Arabic-based Ottoman script with the Latin alphabet.
